Why My Senses Are Like That: Understanding Your Sensory World as a Neurodivergent Young Person

About Course

If certain sounds feel unbearable, certain fabrics feel impossible, or certain smells knock you flat while everyone else seems fine, this course is for you. Dave walks you through all eight sensory systems, explains exactly why your brain processes the world differently, and helps you build a real toolkit you can use at school, at home, and with the people in your life. You are not too sensitive. You are not being dramatic. You just need the right map.

What Will You Learn?

  • Name all eight sensory systems and explain what each one actually does in your body
  • Identify your own sensory profile - what overwhelms you, what you crave, and what helps you feel regulated
  • Spot the early warning signs that sensory overload is building - before it tips over
  • Use specific strategies to manage sensory overload and underload in the moment
  • Explain why certain environments like busy classrooms, shopping centres, or noisy social events feel harder for you than for others
  • Build a personal sensory toolkit with strategies sorted for school, home, and social situations
  • Use clear, confident language to explain your sensory needs to a teacher, parent, or friend
  • Talk about your sensory differences without shame - because understanding yourself is the beginning of everything
