Frequently asked questions

Questions are part of the journey — and we’re here with answers, guidance, and encouragement whenever you need it.

🏁 Getting started

We support everyone involved in helping students with additional learning needs:

  • Education Support Workers (aspiring or current) wanting to build practical classroom skills
  • Parents navigating their child's learning differences and needing strategies that work at home
  • Teachers managing diverse classroom needs and wanting effective differentiation strategies
  • School leaders wanting to make inclusion genuinely effective
  • Students wanting to understand their own learning style and develop strategies that work for them

Different roles. Same goal: skilled, confident support for diverse learners.

We focus on practical skills for supporting diverse learners:

For Education Support Workers: Understanding your role, supporting students with autism/ADHD/dyslexia/anxiety, behaviour support strategies, literacy and numeracy support, working with IEPs and BSPs, professional documentation, getting hired and thriving in the role.

For Parents: Understanding learning differences, practical strategies for home, advocating effectively with schools, supporting homework and learning, building your child's confidence.

For Teachers: Differentiation that works, managing diverse classroom needs, working effectively with support staff, building partnerships with families, creating inclusive classrooms without adding to workload.

For Students: Understanding how you learn best, study strategies for your brain, self-advocacy skills, organisation and time management, building confidence.

ℹ️ Course information

😀 For Education Support Workers

Yes. Whether you're brand new or bringing years of experience, we meet you where you are -no jargon, no overwhelm.

Yes. The Education Support Fast-Track course covers:

  • Understanding your role and responsibilities
  • Supporting diverse learners (autism, ADHD, dyslexia, anxiety)
  • Behaviour support strategies that work
  • Literacy and numeracy support approaches
  • Working with IEPs, BSPs, and other documentation
  • Professional observations and record-keeping

  • Surviving and thriving in your first week

These are the skills schools actually need. Not generic theory.

No. The course is designed for people starting their ESW journey.

We assume no prior teaching experience and build from the ground up. If you have experience, that's great - you'll move through familiar content quickly. If you're completely new, we've got you covered.

In Australia, ESW roles don't require formal qualifications in most states. Schools hire based on skills, experience, and cultural fit.

Our course builds the practical skills schools look for. Your certificate demonstrates your commitment to professional development.

However, requirements vary by state and school. We recommend checking specific requirements in your area.

Absolutely. Many current ESWs take our courses to:

  • Fill gaps in their knowledge
  • Learn new strategies
  • Improve their professional documentation
  • Prepare for career advancement
  • Gain a recognised certificate for their portfolio

Even experienced ESWs tell us they learn valuable new approaches.

Formal qualifications (e.g., Certificate III): Nationally recognised credential, takes 6-12 months, costs $1,000-$5,000+, broad curriculum including admin and theory, required for some roles/states.

thrvhub courses: Professional development certificate, self-paced (typically 4-8 weeks), costs under $500, focused on practical classroom skills, builds immediately usable competence.

We're not a replacement for formal qualifications. We're a practical, affordable way to build real skills quickly "” whether you're exploring the role or supplementing formal training.

Yes. Our course includes:

  • A comprehensive module on getting hired
  • How to write an effective ESW resume
  • Common interview questions and how to answer them
  • What schools look for when hiring
  • How to demonstrate your skills in interviews

Plus, your certificate shows schools you're committed to professional development.

Many schools accept our certificates for professional development records. Check with your school's PD coordinator about their specific requirements.

Perfect. Our course helps you understand exactly what the role involves "” the good and the challenging parts.

It's better to discover the role isn't for you during training than after your first difficult week in a classroom.

If you complete the course and decide it's not for you, at least you'll know - and the skills you've learned will be valuable in many other roles working with children.

🧑‍🧑‍🧒 For Parents

Absolutely. We avoid jargon and explain everything in plain language.

When we do use education terms (like "IEP" or "scaffolding"), we define them clearly. You don't need to be an educator to understand how to support your child effectively.

Yes. While many strategies are based on classroom practice, we show you how to adapt them for home environments.

Supporting reading at home looks different from supporting reading at school - and we explain those differences.

Our courses cover strategies for supporting students with:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • ADHD
  • Dyslexia and other learning disabilities
  • Anxiety
  • Sensory processing differences
  • Executive functioning challenges
  • Speech and language difficulties
  • Emotional regulation challenges

We focus on practical strategies, not just understanding diagnoses.

Yes. You'll learn:

  • How schools operate and what teachers need from families
  • How to communicate effectively with teachers and support staff
  • How to advocate for your child without conflict
  • What IEPs, BSPs, and other plans actually mean
  • How to contribute meaningfully to school meetings

Better understanding = better partnerships.

We'd love to promise that, but we can't.

What we can promise:

  • You'll understand your child's learning differences better
  • You'll have practical strategies to try
  • You'll know when and how to seek additional support
  • You'll feel more confident advocating for your child
  • You'll have tools to support learning at home

Some challenges need additional professional support (psychologists, speech pathologists, occupational therapists). We'll help you understand when that's needed.

Most strategies work for primary and secondary school students (ages 5-18).

We specify age ranges where relevant. Many strategies can be adapted for younger or older students with some modifications.

👩‍🏫 For Teachers

No. We specifically focus on strategies that fit into your existing practice, not create more work.

Our approach: Work smarter, not harder. Differentiation doesn't have to mean creating 30 different worksheets.

Practical strategies. Every lesson includes immediately usable tools.

No overwhelming research papers. No generic theory. Just "here's the challenge, here's what works, here's how to implement it tomorrow."

Even experienced teachers tell us they gain new perspectives and practical strategies.

If you're already an inclusion expert, you might find some content familiar. But we consistently hear: "I wish I'd known this earlier" and "I've been teaching for 20 years and this changed how I approach differentiation."

Course content is for individual use. However, the strategies you learn can certainly be implemented by your support staff when you share them as part of your professional practice.

If you want your whole team trained, contact us about school-wide licences.

School PD often: One-size-fits-all approach, dense full-day sessions, theory-heavy, hard to apply immediately, difficult to revisit later.

thrvhub courses: Self-paced bite-sized lessons, focused on immediate application, practical not theoretical, revisit anytime, designed for busy teachers.

Many schools accept our certificates for PD records. Check with your school's PD coordinator about specific requirements.
